Students Promoting Institutional Equity is a social change documentary targeted at past, present and future Humboldt State University students as a case study in decolonization. The piece deconstructs the higher education system as an asset to capitalism rather than a platform of education through the experiences of students and faculty working and studying at HSU. SPIE sets the premise in coloniality, as HSU stands on illegally occupied Wiyot land, urging viewers to consider these politics critically as they work and study in this area. SPIE features Chicano/a faculty Dr. Marisol Ruiz and Dr. César Abarca addressing the university's diversity statistics and dynamics in regards to people of color in academia.
